About Jet2

Traveling does not always go according to plan. Airlines may delay or cancel your flight, and in many instances, you could claim compensation for your inconvenience.

Out of all the flights that Jet2 operated in 2023, 25% were delayed and 0.2% were cancelled. Part of our 2023 mission was to ensure that the passengers who fell into the 25% and the 0.2% received the compensation they deserved.

The process of claiming Jet2 compensation for a delayed/ cancelled flight can be daunting, as you may not fully understand your passenger rights. To ensure that we provide you with the most accurate information possible and to confirm whether or not you are entitled to compensation from Jet2, we continuously monitor any changes made to EC 261/2004 (the EU legislation that outlines passenger rights).

In the past 2 years, we have helped over 960 people secure their Jet2 compensation for delayed flights, as well as compensation for flight cancellations.

Compensation for flight delays: Jet2

What happens if my Jet2 flight is delayed?

In the event that you receive a notification stating that your flight has been delayed, Jet2 will offer meal and refreshment vouchers that you can use at the airport while you wait to board your flight. Your new departure time will be updated on the flight departure board, and the airline should also inform you via email.

It is important to note that you can only claim flight delay compensation from Jet2 if your flight arrives at your final destination more than 3 hours later than expected.

What should you do if you have experienced a delayed flight?

If you find yourself in this situation, here are some essential steps to take to ensure you receive the support and compensation you deserve:

  • Stay Informed: Check the status of your Jet2 flight regularly through the Jet2 website or app, as this will help you stay updated on any changes or notifications regarding your flight delay.

  • Documentation: Keep all your travel documents handy, including your boarding pass and any notifications about the delay. This information will be crucial if you decide to pursue jet2 delay compensation later on.

  • Know Your Rights: Familiarize yourself with your rights as a passenger. Under EU regulations, you may be entitled to compensation for long delays, especially if the delay exceeds three hours, unless it's due to extraordinary circumstances.

  • Contact Jet2: If your flight is delayed, reach out to Jet2's customer service for assistance. They can provide information on the reason for the delay and any options available, such as rebooking or accommodations.

  • Keep Receipts: If you incur additional costs due to the delay, such as food, drinks, or accommodation, be sure to keep all receipts. You may be able to claim these expenses as part of your jet2 delay compensation claim.

  • File a Claim: After your journey, if you believe you are entitled to  Jet2 compensation, gather all relevant documentation and submit a claim through us and we will refer to you our trusted provider.

Under which conditions can you claim Jet2 compensation for a delayed flight?

  • Flight Departure Time: Your flight must have been scheduled from an EU airport or a UK airport. This means that it matters whether your Jet2 flights were departing from an EU/UK country or not, as this impacts your eligibility for compensation.

  • Not Due to Extraordinary Circumstances: Claims for compensation for delayed flight Jet2 may be denied if the flight delay was caused by extraordinary circumstances. These can include concerning weather conditions, air traffic control strikes, or security risks. In such cases, Jet2 may not be held liable.

  • Filing a Claim Promptly: To ensure your eligibility for compensation from jet2, it’s important to file your claim as soon as possible after experiencing a delay today or in the past 3 years. Claims can usually be submitted up to three years after the flight date, but earlier submissions are often more effective.

A breakdown of how much compensation you can claim

Compensation amounts vary based on several factors, including the distance of your flight and the duration of the delay. Jet2 compensation rates do not differ from any other airline rates, since all airlines operating in the EU and the UK have to follow passenger rights set by EC261/2004.

Here is a breakdown of potential compensation amounts:

  • Short Flights (Up to 1,500 km): For delays of over three hours on flights that fall within this distance, you may be entitled to compensation of up to €250.

  • Medium Flights (1,500 km to 3,500 km): If your Jet2 delayed flight falls within this range and experiences a delay of over three hours, you can claim compensation of up to €400.

  • Long Flights (Over 3,500 km): For flights over 3,500 km outside of the EU, if you arrive at your destination more than four hours late, you may be eligible for compensation up to €600.

  • Compensation Based on Delay Duration: The compensation amount you receive may also depend on whether the delay was less than or greater than the three-hour threshold. It's essential to understand that longer delays typically lead to higher compensation.
